About me

My name is Andréa Câmara and I’ve been a teacher for over 20 years. Teaching has always been my call. I’m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I lived in Chicago for 12 years where I also taught Portuguese as a second language and ESL.

My first teaching ‘experience’ happened when I was about 5 or 6.  I used to pretend to be a teacher and my younger sister and friends were my pupils. I can’t recall what I was teaching them, but I remember I was tough! 🙂

English became my favorite subject as a young teenager thanks to music. Once I realized it,  teaching  + English came together as the perfect match.

Fast forward now, I’ve taken many courses since; gotten certified – including a CELTA; and more recently concluded a specialization degree in Applied Linguistics in TESOL.

Now I wonder what to do next. A Masters? A Delta or DipTesol? One thing is clear to me, though. As a freelance teacher for many years, studying and investing in my CPD (Continuing Professional Developing) is a must, and I love it.

If you want to know more about me and my career, you can find it on FB & LinkedIN.
